Statement of Faith

As a Christian, I believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19) Also known as the Trinity, I have come to understand the importance of all three in my life. First, ever since I was a small child, I’ve strongly believed in God even though my parents did not teach me about God. I can even remember feeling the early presence of God at a young age on the farm I grew up on in Pennsylvania and feeling the presence of a loving creator that was looking down on me and everyone else.

As I grew older and went through different life experiences, I started to believe there was a God that not only created mankind, but there was a God that watched over all of us and loved us like a parent loves a child. (Acts 17:24-28) I believe this is the same God from the beginning of time and is in control of our world. As I grew older and began to learn about Jesus Christ I learned how salvation and redemption comes through him. (Ephesians 1:7) While I believe we live in fallen world and cannot escape from sin and evil that exists around us, I believe its through Jesus Christ that we find not only redemption for our sins, but that we also find salvation through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16) To me, Jesus Christ saves us from not only our fallen world, but our own fallen selves. And I also view Jesus Christ as the one who not only liberates us individually, but will someday liberate all of mankind from the oppression and evil that exists in our world.¬† And I believe it’s the role of the church to welcome and accept all people for who they are regardless of their background, social class, ethnicity, sexual¬†orientation and sexual identity.¬†(Galatians 3:28)

I believe the Holy Spirit exists in our lives as a way to not only guide us during our life journey, but exists to remind us of the love, compassion, and hope, that comes from our God who is above watching over us. (Romans 8:9) I also believe the Holy Spirit exists as a reminder of new life that we can find through Jesus Christ and that even though we live in a fallen world, God still is here speaking to us. It’s the Holy Spirit that reminds us that love will always triumph over hate and hope will always overcome fear. (1 John 4:17-19) It is only through God, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit that I can understand the presence of God and his influence in my life. These three elements define why I am a Christian, but also give strength in my faith in God’s presence, Jesus Christ’s forgiveness, and the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my life.
